This year I am going to travel. I recently was (somewhat significantly) promoted at my day job and I finally have the stable and sufficient income to sort of, for the first time in my life, do as I please. Besides paying off a few loans and credit cards, I am planning on taking a trip to New York to experience the city for the first time, dust off my SLR (and my eyeballs), wear in my tennies, and nosh on carby treats with Jill. I am also in the stages of planning a (shh!) road trip (!!!) which is something I’ve dreamed of for too many years. Really, I haven’t seen or done much, and I’m young, and it makes me feel sad and inadequate. While I fear that jotting down these exciting ambitions will somehow jinx me or prevent me from actually realizing them, I also think that putting them out there makes them more like promises. More tangible or permanent or real or something like that. I promise to myself that I will work toward these goals and make this year something special for myself. I have worked too hard and have struggled too much in 2011 to let 2012 follow any sort of similar pattern. I will have my cake and eat it too. So there you go.
